Overview

One Edge Fascia is a snap-on fascia from Metal-Era's Edge Systems One family. A 20-gauge galvanized formed rail is fastened to the wood nailers at the roof edge, stainless-steel spring clips sit on the rail, and a 12-foot cover presses down over the rail until it is engaged along its whole length. The roof membrane runs over the edge and down the outside face of the wall before the rail goes on.

This page covers two versions of one product. The single-ply version is for fully adhered or mechanically attached single-ply membranes, and the built-up or modified version is for BUR and modified bitumen roof systems. Both carry the 20-year, 120 mph Edge Systems One wind warranty on orders that call for it. The fascia finishes the perimeter of low-slope roof systems where the edge is not a waterline.

Covers ship in 12-foot lengths with pre-punched holes. The fastening holes are slotted to allow thermal movement of the materials and to set fastener placement and spacing. All fasteners arrive with the product, and sealant is supplied by others.

Versions and face heights

The two versions differ in face height range and in the membrane they are made for.

  • Single-ply version: 4 in., 5 in., 6 1/2 in. and 8 in. face heights.
  • Built-up or modified version: 5 in., 6 1/2 in. and 8 in. face heights.

The range of heights accommodates multiple nailers and different coverage requirements. Coverage should extend a minimum of 1 in. below wood blocking where blocking is used.

Two taller members of the family are listed in the same product table. One Edge Extended Fascia comes in 9 1/2 in., 11 in. and 12 1/2 in. face heights, in 22-gauge steel, .050-in. aluminum and .063-in. aluminum, for both single-ply and built-up or modified roofs. One Edge CF Fascia, a single-ply version, comes in 3 1/2 in., 4 3/4 in., 6 1/4 in., 7 3/4 in., 9 1/4 in., 10 3/4 in. and 12 1/4 in. face heights, with a maximum tested face height of 9 1/4 in.

Custom face sizes and slot locations are available for the single-ply version. On the 24-gauge, 22-gauge and .040-in. custom print approval, the face is a minimum of 4 in. and the maximum tested face is 8 in.

Cover materials and construction

Covers are made in five materials:

  • 24-gauge galvanized steel
  • 22-gauge galvanized steel
  • .040-in. aluminum
  • .050-in. aluminum
  • .063-in. aluminum

On the single-ply version, the 24-gauge, 22-gauge and .040-in. covers are supplied with a lap joint, and the .050-in. and .063-in. covers are supplied with a splice plate. The lap-joint cover is provided with a 1-in. lap. On the built-up or modified version, the .050-in. and .063-in. covers use 3 1/2-in. wide splice plates, and the 24-gauge, 22-gauge and .040-in. covers use a 1-in. lap joint.

Each version uses the same support parts:

  • a 20-gauge galvanized formed rail in 12-foot lengths;
  • 6-in. stainless-steel spring clips at 4 ft. on center;
  • #10 x 2-in. stainless-steel fasteners at 12 in. on center, provided with the product;
  • non-curing sealant under the flange, supplied by others on the single-ply version.

Where the single-ply version is fastened to masonry rather than wood, 1/4 x 1 1/4-in. Tapcon fasteners at 12 in. on center are provided instead; the substrate is named on the order.

Finishes and colors

For One Edge Fascia, coil-coated standard colors carry a 30-year Kynar 500 finish warranty. On One Edge Fascia, custom post-coated Kynar 500 colors include a 10-year Kynar 500 finish warranty, and a 20-year warranty is available on request. For One Edge Fascia, anodized finishes carry a 5-year warranty; coil anodized finishing has no warranty, and post-coat Class 1 batch anodizing can be raised from 5 years to 10 years for an upcharge.

Ten express colors are available: Medium Bronze, Sandstone, Sierra Tan, Slate Gray, Stone White, Dark Bronze, Bone White, Cityscape, Almond and Clear Anodized. Mill finish is also offered.

Wind testing, approvals and warranty

The system is tested to ANSI/SPRI/FM 4435/ES-1, the roof-edge wind standard referenced by the International Building Code, and is Factory Mutual approved for wind uplift protection. Miami-Dade approval 23-0912.08 (12/11/28) covers use in the High Velocity Hurricane Zone of the Florida Building Code.

An ANSI/SPRI ES-1 design pressure is stated for each cover group:

  • Single-ply version, 24-gauge, 22-gauge and .040-in. covers: 155 psf.
  • Built-up or modified version, 24-gauge, 22-gauge and .040-in. covers: 179 psf.
  • Built-up or modified version, .050-in. and .063-in. covers: 179 psf.

The Edge Systems One wind warranty runs a maximum of 20 years at 120 mph. It covers repair or replacement of any portion of the roof edge system that has failed due to a defect in Metal-Era supplied materials, and it is available on orders to meet a project's specification.

Miters and accessories

Factory-fabricated accessories remove the need for field fabrication. The print approvals provide for outside and inside 90-degree miters, supplied as cover only; rail miters are not provided with the built-up or modified covers. Non-90-degree miters have their own print approval and measurement worksheet.

Other listed accessories include fascia extenders with and without offset, radius fascia in standard and custom radii, and scuppers for the 24-gauge and .040-in. single-ply covers. Radius covers use 3-in. wide spring clips at 2 ft. on center.

Installation sequence

The single-ply splice plate version is installed in these steps:

  1. Membrane: the membrane is positioned over the roof edge and down the outside face of the wall, overlapping the nailers by at least 1/2 in. Treated wood nailers, minimum 2 x 4, are aligned flush with or slightly past the outermost edge of the wall.
  2. Miter and scupper base rail (preparation): the base rail is laid on the deck with the outside face down, and a heavy 3/8-in. bead of non-curing sealant goes along the right-angle intersection of the deck flange and base rail.
  3. Rail miter preparation: the miter base rail is fastened to the nailers through the base rail slots.
  4. Base rail installation: 12-foot sections go in from right to left as seen from the roof, each lapping the previous section 1 in., fastened through the slots at 12 in. on center.
  5. Spring clips: placed at 4 ft. on center, with a spring clip under each cover end.
  6. Miters: a splice plate goes into each end of the miter cover, and the cover is pressed down until it engages the base rail.
  7. Splice plates: the protective film is removed, and covers are installed from left to right as seen from the roof.
  8. Fascia covers: pre-notched covers snap on with a 3/8-in. gap between cover sections.
  9. Fascia covers: at a miter, the right side of the cover is field notched before it snaps on.

Steps 10 to 13 cover field fabrication of outside and inside miters, for the rail and for the cover. Covers are field cut with a fine-tooth hacksaw.

The built-up or modified version starts with the base sheet of the membrane over the roof edge, covering the nails completely, and a 1/4-in. band of mastic on the back of the deck flange. Care is needed to avoid spilling asphalt over the edge. Rail sections are installed with a 3/8-in. gap between them.

The fascia is for perimeter securement on roof designs where it is not installed in a waterline. Where the product sits in a waterline or drainage over the edge is required, Anchor-Tite Canted Fascia or Anchor-Tite Drip Edge is recommended.
