Overview
One Skirted Drip Edge is a metal drip edge from Metal-Era's Edge Systems One line. The cover is 24-gauge galvanized steel coated with PVC or TPO, and a strip of membrane flashing is heat welded to it at the factory. The flashing is the skirt: it carries the roof membrane onto the edge metal, and the finished edge is hot-air welded to the field membrane along its entire length.
This page covers two versions of the same product. The PVC version carries PVC flashing and the TPO version carries TPO flashing. Both are supplied with pre-punched, slotted fastening holes, and both are intended to sit on a continuous cleat that hooks the lower edge of the cover. Drip edges of this kind are one of the perimeter metal components used to finish single-ply flat roofing systems at the roof edge.
The product is tested to ANSI/SPRI/FM 4435/ES-1, FM Approved for wind uplift protection, and backed by a 10-year, 90 MPH wind warranty on orders that call for it.
Versions and face heights
The two versions differ in coating, flashing and standard face heights.
- PVC version: 24-gauge galvanized steel, PVC coated, with factory-applied PVC flashing. Standard face heights are 3 in., 4 in. and 6 in., all with a continuous cleat.
- TPO version: 24-gauge galvanized steel, TPO coated, with factory-applied TPO flashing. Standard face heights are 4 1/2 in. and 6 in., with a continuous cleat.
Both versions offer a 2 1/2-in. face with no cleat and 3-in., 4-in., 6-in. and 8-in. faces with a continuous cleat. Standard sizes on the sell sheet are 2.5 in. without cleat and 3 in., 4 in. and 6 in. with cleat. A custom face height from a minimum of 1 1/4 in. to a maximum of 8 in. is an option on the PVC print approvals.
Both versions are also drawn without a continuous cleat. The no-cleat versions have a 2 1/2-in. face and a 3 1/2-in. top, with slotted fastening holes 6 in. on center.

Cover, cleat and flashing materials
The cover is 24-gauge galvanized steel in every version. The continuous cleat is 22-gauge galvanized steel with slotted holes and ships with the cover.
Flashing membrane depends on the membrane brand the edge is made to match:
- Versico/Carlisle PVC: an 8-in.-wide, .063-in. PVC flashing, with the cover in 24-gauge galvanized steel coated in Versico/Carlisle PVC.
- Sika Sarnafil PVC: an 8-in.-wide Sarnafil PVC flashing membrane, with the cover in 24-gauge galvanized steel coated in Sika Sarnaclad PVC. Flashing membrane codes S 327 and G 410 are printed on the approvals.
- Carlisle Versico TPO: a 6-in.-wide reinforced TPO flashing on a Versico TPO-coated cover.
- GAF TPO: a 6-in.-wide non-reinforced TPO flashing on a GAF TPO-coated cover.
White is the standard color on the print approvals, and White TPO or PVC is the express color on the sell sheet. The Sika Sarnafil PVC edge is also drawn in colors, as a separate print approval from the white one.
Length depends on the membrane manufacturer. The Versico/Carlisle PVC cover is 10 ft. long, the Sika Sarnafil PVC cover is 10 ft. long in white and 8 ft. long in colors, and the TPO cover is 12 ft. long. Continuous cleats are always supplied in 12-ft. lengths.
Testing and approvals
The drip edge is tested to ANSI/SPRI/FM 4435/ES-1, the roof-edge wind test referenced by the International Building Code. It is Factory Mutual approved for wind uplift protection, and the FM Approved mark is printed on the PVC and TPO print approvals and on the installation drawing.
The Sika Sarnafil PVC edge has an ANSI/SPRI/FM 4435/ES-1 test pressure of up to 282 psf.
The PVC version also carries a Miami-Dade approval, 23-0912.08 (12/11/28), for the High Velocity Hurricane Zone of the Florida Building Code. The TPO version does not carry a Miami-Dade approval.
Fasteners, cleat and miters
Fastening holes are pre-punched and slotted, which sets the spacing and leaves room for thermal movement. Ring shank roofing nails are provided with the product, and all fasteners are provided.
- Cover: slotted fastening holes 6 in. on center.
- Continuous cleat: slotted fastening holes 12 in. on center. On the Sika Sarnafil PVC edge with a face height over 6 in., the slotted hole is located 1.5 in. from the bottom of the cleat.
- Cleat joints are lapped 1 in.
The Sika Sarnafil PVC version offers a choice of substrate (wood, masonry or metal) and ships wood fasteners when no substrate is named.
Miters are factory fabricated, so no field fabrication is needed. Inside and outside 90-degree miters are ordered by count alongside the lineal feet of cover. Miters do not have factory-applied flashing, and the membrane is added to them in the field. Non-90-degree miters have a separate print approval. No lap notches and no splice plates are provided.
Installation sequence
Miters are installed first. The Sika Sarnafil PVC installation drawing then runs in eight steps, and its numbered order is:
- Roof membrane: position the membrane over the roof edge and down the outside face of the wall, covering the wood nailer or nailers completely, with the membrane 1/2 in. past the nailer.
- Continuous cleat: position and fasten the cleat 12 in. on center through the pre-slotted holes with the provided nails, lapping the cleat 1 in. at joints.
- Drip edge: hook each drip edge section onto the continuous cleat and rotate it into place.
- Drip edge: roll back the flashing to expose the fastening slots and fasten through the pre-slotted holes 6 in. on center with the provided nails.
- Drip edge: continue installing lengths and leave a 1/4-in. space between pieces.
- Aluminum tape at joint: place a 2-in.-wide piece of aluminum tape over the joint.
- Joint membrane: hot-air weld a 6-in.-wide piece of membrane over the joint, extended and welded 2 in. past the factory-installed flashing and welded 2 in. along both edges. The membrane is not wrapped around the bottom of the drip.
- Flashing: hot-air weld along the entire length of the drip edge.
The TPO and PVC installation instructions for the skirted edge carry a tech bulletin on TPO pinking, a pink, red or orangish coloration that is temporary. It goes away within 24 hours of installation once the product is exposed to UV light, and the product is not stained or permanently discolored.
Wind warranty
A 10-year, 90 MPH wind warranty is available on orders that meet a project's specification. It provides a maximum of 10 years and 90 MPH coverage for repair or replacement of any portion of the roof edge system that has failed because of a defect in materials supplied by Metal-Era.
