Relevant manufacturer history
Maurice Petersen founded Petersen Aluminum in Chicago on February 15, 1965, as an aluminum distributor serving mills that needed a distribution channel. It began in a rented office. In July 1972 the company moved to Schiller Park, Illinois, and acquired an aluminum anodizing line, which began its work in architectural metals. It still maintains an anodizing line.
During the 1970s the company developed the PAC-CLAD line, starting with prefinished Kynar 500 aluminum and later adding prefinished steel. In the late 1980s and early 1990s it entered the factory-formed roofing panel market. Mike Petersen succeeded his father as president and chief executive officer in 1987. In 1994 the company moved into its headquarters in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, where it remains. At that time it also operated branches in Acworth, Georgia; Tyler, Texas; Annapolis Junction, Maryland; and Fridley, Minnesota.
A formal quality control program was started in 2006 with Sherwin-Williams Coil Coatings and Precoat Metals. The company marked its 50th anniversary in 2015. Carlisle Companies announced an agreement to acquire Petersen Aluminum Corporation in December 2018 and completed the purchase in 2019. Mike Petersen remained president until 2022.
